...got a phone call late last night to say that my brother had been taken seriously ill during a business meeting in Paris, and had been taken to hospital. As the night went on, and after many phone calls, we found out the initial diagnosis was a brain haemorrhage. Today they believe it was actually a stroke.
From what we've heard today he seems OK - he's compus mentus, but a little numb down his left hand side. His wife and kids are there with him now (not a great night for them to have to get out of London to travel to Paris) and we've got good lines of communication open.
He's going to be in hospital for a week, so I'm just wondering whether to go over there towards the end of this week and see him.
Kinda knocks the wind out of your sails
Whoa!!
Sorry Man! Hope things are OK
Get over there and see him - My family isn't that close and I wish it were otherwise but hey ho!

Greetings denizens, if denizens there be
Turning my Mac back on, the central region of the screen bobbed up a few pixels in a very smooth animation, then bobbed back down again, equally smoothly.
I'm not sure if this a glitch, and even glitches behave gracefully on Macs; or if it's actually an intended behaviour: "Oh, you're back! [curtseys gracefully - well, nods head]"
I'm inclined towards the latter, given that if one mistypes one's password when attempting to log in, the login dialog shakes itself from side to side in a perfect imitation of a doorman shaking their head - "You're not coming in with that password!"
I don't know how much time is spent at Apple perfecting tiny details that most people will never see (the head-shaking login dialog is animated beautifully, and having worked with animation when I was doing games I know how hard that can be to get right), but it's all worth it - you get the feeling that even though something's gone wrong and it's your fault, some effort has been put into making your fail feel good

I wandered off to get some tomato soup and toast
However, I put on the DVD of the first series of Yes, Minister to watch as I was eating, so I'll probably end up continuing to watch that now
The soup was lekker thoughComment
