When I was doing A Levels, our Biology teacher had an excellent wallchart showing Metabolic Pathways. When he nipped off for a ciggy during double periods I often used to examine it. You could follow stuff all around, seeing the way that it was reprocessed and broken down until it somehow got through your metabolism to the point where it could be expelled as waste - or, more ominously, went down a chain of chemical reactions that would leave its by-products there, festering somewhere within you
I think I'm correct in saying that I've forgotten all of that now
