So what did the doorman of the FMB bar say?
Ah, yes - when I told him about it, he immediately said "Was this guy [the one who got the kicking] wearing a light-coloured striped hoody?" When I answered in the affirmative, he explained that the guy had been in there earlier in the evening, very out of it - he reckoned that he was probably coked up as well as being drunk.
The doorman had been going to throw him out, but he left anyway of his own volition, and then immediately started a big row with three people on the street; they all ended up heading off around the corner, shouting the odds at one another.
So what I saw was the culmination of all this, after the three people he was hassling had summoned a few mates to help out.
The doorman reckoned that the guy deserved a kicking, so it seems as if it was six of one and half-a-dozen of the other at the end of the day.
