          Indeed - very accurate over large distances and could kill over very large distances.

          Just not very practical when you're running around fields and woods avoiding the enemy - and a nightmare to conceal (if you're a sniper)

            I remember when the cadet version of the SA80 was issued (LA98 i think) - the first thing we were taught was the stoppage drill

            Says a lot really.


            It was a cadet's dream - after years of running around with the .303 to finally get given something that looked like a proper automatic rifle (albeit not automatic).

            And there were lots of rumours of people's faces being blown off from rounds exploding in the chamber.
