What about if I work at London bridge with one contract 18 months. Then work at another firm on Cannon street. Both requires me to take the same train in to London but once in London the route is different. Is that different enough for HMRC?

It's also what accountants would tell their clients.

Nope. They are about half a mile apart. Basically the same location, just you are choosing to take a different route to get to one or the other.

Your accountant should have been advising you on these things.

I have only been contracting for 12 months, probably why my accountant has not raised the travel expense issue with me yet.

That sounds way more ridiculous than I thought it was. Is there any official range released by HMRC for this criteria? Is it 5 miles or 10 miles. Will it cover the entire of London? What about if it is the opposite end of London and requires me to catch two more trains?

Taxi's are OK to claim no matter what though right? I can claim taxis for the same journey every day past 24 months? Is it only Train expenses that are affected by this ridiculous and arbitrary rule?

what? - why would the transport mode matter?
all transport expenses come under this rule.

Everything as soon as you are aware it could go over 24 months.

It's not when it hits 24 months, it's not just some things, it's all travel and subsistence

It would depend on where one started one's journey. Th journey must be *significantly* different for the clock to be reset. But you know that.

Yeah, Osterley is significantly different to Canary Wharf. I wouldn't go into the centre of London to get to Osterley

Not that I'm doing that shiz any more.

First encountered this when I was working for one bank on the wharf and was approached to work for another one. They couldn't get to the rate/WFH policy to make it worth while.
