I was a customer of CK purely for accounting purposes as a contractor. This relationship ended 30 June 2016 and I transfered to another accountant as I wasnt happy with them.
Am I being naive in thinking as this issue relates to 2017/18 that I shouldn't be involved in this and HMRC have my details purely as I am a previous CK customer?

In terms of the PAYE investigation you should be ok, but you could get caught up in the national insurance investigation for which they've a longer time scope (another 18 months for 2017/2018, so I guess maybe they could issue letters for 2016/2017 in the next 6 months)

Sadly i find myself embroiled in this CK situation. Got the letter today regarding it from HMRC. I think from what i have researched the case is definitely around a 'framing' of information by HMRC, and what involvement' means. I for one have a very hands off relationship with CK, i barely speak to anybody there and use accountancy services for bookkeeping, tax advice etc. This all feels to me like part of the sustained anti contractor/freelance agenda by this gov and the last.

Hi, any recommendations for a good tax expert please. I received the letter last Friday and not sure what to do ? Has anyone tried to generate CK appeal letter?

In this instance I’ll allow it Greg.

My recommendations for Tax specialists particularly in dealing for settlements, queries, negotiations is Gilbert Tax.
For a fight I recommend specialist tax lawyers Haddletons.

You all know I'm trying to settle rather than fight so once again I am using Gilbert
can i ask a question - are doing the appeal letter as well as this?

Looks like I am another that may be caught in this. Not received a single communication from Hector but CK say I'm on the list. I was only with them from 2017-mid 2018 but still trying to understand it all. At present I cant even appeal as I have no letter etc

FWIW I do think CK have a good handle on it and are approaching it very confidently and positively. However, while they have skin in this game and they may get hit by a few liabilities, the transfer of debt order is clear, so unless the Ltd company and the director can't pay then it comes to then which I imagine will be a tiny % so at what point do they just abandon us?

                      1. Ltd company
                      2. Director
                      3. CK

In my experience though Hector chancing their arm is rare really, if they have a sniff then they have got it for very good reason.

Deeply troubling times, not just for CK clients either, ask any contractor/friend most of them probably operated exactly the same way. I know of several.
Yeah it seems slightly ridiculous that you use the services of registered and accredited professionials to help you and keep you on the right side of things. Then almost as a result you are penalised and told that you have been acting in a manner which is somehow evasive. I have always paid every single penny i have ever been asked to pay for anything as a director and an individual.
