HMRC reports £1bn received against APNs

I just saw this on AccountingWeb - I'm not sure if this is new information or not, I couldn't find the same thing on HMRC's website... if I've posted old news, I apologise in advance...

    HMRC reports
They may indeed have received the money, but they have made little attempt to prove it's rightfully theirs. HMRC admit they will have to give some of it back. The figure that they have chosen to use of 20% (i.e. 80% of cases are won by HMRC) is laughable; these are mostly complex cases where I suspect their win rate will be much lower.

I would like to know how much has been issued in APNs.

More HMRC propaganda. And what a nice, round figure it is too.

And how much is this costing HMRC to collect? Never hear anything about costs

Puts some objectivity into the equation and reduces the propaganda value.

                  +1

I suspect the first £1bn has been low hanging fruit. A lot of rich and celebrities will have just paid.

But the next £1bn will be a lot harder to collect.

I still find it ironic that APNs are headed "about the avoidance scheme you used". And I thought avoidance was legal...
