You cannot compare the total bodycount of 30 years of Saddam with one week of these insurgents.

What this 'invasion' threatens is turning Iraq into a militant islamic state, far more dangerous to world than Saddam, which is something Saddam had prevented during his reign.

The area is uncontrollable by us, so it was best left to its own devices with strong men like Saddam, unpleasant as they are, keeping a tin lid on people much worse than he was.

Saddam killed millions over 30 years by being a brutal dictator and oppressing people to the max. If you ask me I'd rather be killed with freedom than live under constant oppression and tyranny.

Sadman Insane killed a million people over 20 or thirty years.
It's widely believed (eg MITs study, etc) that over a million people have died as a result of the invasion ten years ago.

That's in a country of 25 million-ish in 2000.

I think one would have to be some kind of psycho to suggest that 'we' did them a favour.

It is interesting that - because if you ractchet it down a notch and then look at some companies whose exec have simply no interest in the human beings that work for the company other than what they can do to earn the execs more money.

Sometimes at least these dictators were honest in their view of human life - unlike many of today's 'ethical business leaders'

The thing that really gets me is this; 11 years ago, everyone I know, all my family, people at work, people in the pub - all of them to a man could see that our involvement in Iraq was stirring up one big hornet's nest. And I can say exactly the same thing about our misguided efforts in Libya and Syria in the ensuing years.

And that is exactly what has happened - look at it; it beggars belief, you just couldn't make it up. And the cruelest irony of all - it's all happening on the watch of Middle East Peace Envoy Tony Blair. Great job you're doing there Tone.

Now, I know politicians are out of touch but I can't really believe they buy that "hands across the ocean" tripe of how these totalitarian regimes, after our intervention, are going to blossom into western style democracies and become part of some global rainbow league of nations, or whatever it was Blair had in his mind. I really can't.

So, what exactly is the plan? What do they want to get from all this chaos that has resulted from their policies?
