British birth rate leaps by 18% in a decade - Home News - UK - The Independent

Net migration to UK jumps 30% in a year to 212,000 | UK news | The Guardian

Population and Household Estimates for the United Kingdom, March 2011 - ONS

so 221,000 extra a year from immigration. so build 100,000 houses a year to cover that.

Conservatively 200,000 babies from foreign born (first & second born). so 100,000 houses for them.

so we need to build 200,000 houses a year to cover immigration and its results.

Plus probably 50-100,000 (maybe more) to cover changes to housing usage (people living longer and on their own more).

we are building less than half of that.

simple, we either decrease demand or up building.

Nobody else talks about the cause of the housing shortage. Only about the need to build two new Lutons every year. Which is a wonderful solution, don't you think?

When the goverment announced this policy, did anyone on here NOT immediately conclude "That will inflate house prices"?
I think we all did. But my bigger worry is (and still is) when it is unwound. Could be 1989 all over again.

And I thought housing inflation was keeping the economy going? Well that and immigration....
IN Ldn maybe. Not seen any price boosts up here. More house on market however, many of them empty.

That is another issue, the concentration of housing demand and work in the south east. We need to spread the money.

Better cancel HS2 and other investment in the regions then.

                  Vote UKIP!
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

I like HS2 in principle, but its likely to be a horlicks anyway.

There is no Housing crisis. There are too many people wanting to live in the same small area and developers lobbying to get access to the green belt are colluding with government to soften public resistance. As it ever was.
