To you all you saying something should be done may I remind you of the reaction to afghanistan and Iraq "doing something" and also if you feel so strongly about it why don't YOU "do something"

I don't think it should have spaces in it. And they're not "our" girls.Originally posted by doodab View PostIt's not just celebrities. Our glorious leader is equally ******* useless.

As we (mostly) aren't trained soldiers with access to advanced weaponry and intelligence calling for the government to deploy troops is about all we can do, apart from joining in the tweets which I am not really impressed by.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostIf you feel so strongly about it why don't YOU "do something"While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Agreed. This tweeting business feels somehow incredibly tasteless.Originally posted by doodab View PostAs we (mostly) aren't trained soldiers with access to advanced weaponry and intelligence calling for the government to deploy troops is about all we can do, apart from joining in the tweets which I am not really impressed by.Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

Arguably it does do some good.
Three weeks ago, nobody was aware of the issue.
I only knew about the kidnap because I clicked through to Africa news to see what was happening with the Prestorius trial, and it was several stories down.
Social media raises awareness which puts pressure on governments to put pressure on other governments. Obama has now sent help (dunno if we have too?). I don't reckon this would have happened if it hadn't got into the public consciousness.
Apparently this (girls being kidnapped) has been happening for ages, and has happened since, just not on the same scale.Comment

Fair point. I'd be useless in the jungle. That's why we pay to train soldiers for such things.Originally posted by doodab View PostAs we (mostly) aren't trained soldiers with access to advanced weaponry and intelligence calling for the government to deploy troops is about all we can do, apart from joining in the tweets which I am not really impressed by.Comment

Raising awareness is good although for everything that becomes super-high-profile, 20 others are not getting noticed.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostArguably it does do some good.

Some events benefit from high profile though and I'm not sure this is one of them. Some kidnappers might relish the publicity!Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
