how about "Die Letzte Bulle"?, bit of a rip off of "Life on Mars", unfortunately my DVD copy doesn't have German subtitles (need subtitles in German as it helps if you don't quite catch a word)

would be interested to know any other suggestions of German TV or podcasts.

It's better than any of the three(!) American copies...

I don't agree that it HAS to be worthless. (And the comments section there is mixed, by the way.)

The reason it might have worked is that Germans are kind of stiffly neurotic, sort of unrelaxed. But so is Basil, isn't he, so that might translate very well.

Apparently they remade 11 of the 12 episodes. One was... overlooked.

Pity, because it's got so many great non-WWII jokes as well, like the fire drill.

BTW "Manuel" is from Kazakhstan but speaks Russian and the owner thinks Kazakhstan is somewhere in Russia

Is it just me but does it look slightly threatening in German?
