    Exactly.

    We've been brainwashed.

People banging on about extreme weather events, the Met Office giving names to these storms that blow in off the Atlantic as though they're some kind of tropical cyclone.

    Utterly ridiculous.

It's just miserable winter weather, hardly out of the ordinary.

The big difference is that our infrastructure is more like that of a 3 rd world nation these days and can't cope. I'm thinking of the dereliction of duty by the EA which exacerbated the floods in Somerset and the parlous state of our roads.

      .
Er no, it was out of the ordinary in that more rain fail in that period than since records began, bit like summer 2012, which was a rain washout - again more rain fail in a given period than since records began.

So the stats tell us that it was extraordinary.

And these extraordinary events are becoming more ordinary - that is indeed what that report is saying.

Like I say it'll be good for Europe - it will become a lush paradise.
But all the drought-ridden Africans will want to move over here.
      Hard Brexit now!

          whs

our water managemnet policy has gone to the dogs

we no longer dredge rivers to help remove the risk of flood due to pointless eu red tape

for some reason housing companies and councils seem to see flood plains as great places to build houses

people in the south have been paving over front gardens for the past 30 years so no where for rain to run off

many people who got flooded last year have done nothing to stop themselves being flooded this year

Other countries have had record breaking events too.
I have no doubt the climate is changing around the world - anyone who isn't a complete blinkered fookwit can see that - whether it's caused by human agency can be argued.
It may even turn out that climate change will be good for Europe in the short term, not so much for the rest of the world.
The climate has always changed and will carry on doing so. As for frequency .. really?

Didn't you notice while NL were in charge the meaning of "...since records began ..." was adjusted to point at a new set of records, usually beginning in something like 1983?

No I didn't - since I'm talking about the rainfall in the last few months.

Yes, it doesn't always go back as far as you imagine.

Also, this winter was the wettest winter for just a small area of the south - not the whole country. I bet you could come up with some statistic that was a new record every year if you wanted to.

I really think you shouldn't post on anything to do with numbers, what?

That's the problem with t'internet, every cretin, however innumerate and ill-informed has an opinion.
