Easy split it, leave RBS with its head office in Scotland with all the debts they ran up & owe and take the public customers into a new bank RBUK with no debts but all those lovely mortgages & savings from the UK. You can have RBS's trading arm with pleasure. Same for Lloyds.

If they want to trade on the UK stock exchange they would have to prove they were solvent. Alex can lend them a few quid from the oil money he is getting when his giro clears.

Considering the EU directive came about as the result of BCCI which left a fairly significant trail of devastation the rule isn't silly.

Obeying the rule will have a side effect if Scotland votes to feck off, so the Scottish voters (the real ones, not the loudmouth gits lurking in other countries) need to be aware of the fallout of their decision.

It was a bleedin' liberty that Lloyds moved its registration to Scotland when it rescued HBOS and suddenly became a Scottish bank. We seemed to be rewarding them for failure - 'here, you've broken your two banks so have one of ours to break as well'.

They should be moving Lloyds back to England too.
