its a simple select statement. select * from sy01 db where attendance data not null and scanned stuff is null
We don't know when the attendance data will come in. The bureau will tell them when scanning is complete. We need a surefire way of quickly identify which papers were missed as opposed to didn't turn up. Hint, the marks are also stored in the database.

That would work except for the fact that the quality of all human interaction is suspect and if they cannot be trusted to collate the papers, how can they be trusted to enter attendance information?

You haven't mentioned the point at which the student/exam record is created. Is it on scan of the document, entry of attendance data, either or?

A minor point but given that this is such a pig's ear, a lot of the students are going to come out with A*'s when they didn't even attend the examination....oh wait......

The exam entry is created during the enrolment window you berk, haven't you ever sat an exam before?

If there was no candidate entry how would they know to set up a desk in the gymnasium, order the exam paper etc etc

The exams are automarked. I said this. I also said the exam marks are stored in the database. Which revolutionary piece of information representation would make the candidate entry information machine readable?

You are getting het up over semantics. There is enough information provided to give the answer.
