FIL's neighbour "works" every so often doing odd jobs. Has never had a full time job.
Bought his house with a mortgage, while on the dole, for less than £30K.

Tries to tell me how easy I have it, how "you don't know your born, you kids nowadays".

If you've got a good brain, you can start work stacking shelves or lugging heavy objects around and you'll still be able to make a success of yourself.
there is a certain amount of kudos in working for a household name as an intern, however it shouldn't be working for free, its working for reputation and experience that will allow you to jump a few rungs.
