They seem ok - came as standard on the car...

It's interesting that there seem to be some not-so-well-known brand names that work really well and cheaper to boot. Don't want to test such things though...

I've just replaced them with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta XL's. Not cheap at £120 each, but reviews are good and they do stick to the road like sh1t!
I guess I would agree with this. I had the Potenza's on my Zed and they were ok'ish. Bit noisier than the Michelin Pilots I have on now. Oddly enough the reviews rated Potenzas a about the same for the Michelin Pilots for comfort. They are noticeably harder but quieter. I don't drive like a nutter so either would have done me.

The Vredestein also rate highly on the Z350 reviews as well.

All said and done go for the ones with the coolest looking tread pattern. The bloke that put my Pilots on apologised for how boring they looked and he was right. Vreds looks cool.

Exceptionally small and narrow by modern standards - unless fitted to a no-contractor style motor :-)

The only ones on that list I'd avoid are the Pirellis, they were 250+ a tyre for my Jag and they were total crap, noisy and wore unevenly in spite of having all new suspension and alignment.

Have had Michelins and Contis with no problems - I reckon the others are all fine - and 100% brownie points for not getting the hedgefinders most people seem quite happy to fit these days.
I think that hedge finders are a thing of the past. For most normal driving you could pick whatever you want to pay. I have paid everything from 50 to 300 a corner and the only tyres I really hated with vengeance were a set of Pirelli p6000 that almost killed me. Our discovery was eating premium tires in less than 10k miles but is now a little more respectable having done 15k with more than half the tread left on them using a tire that was only 150 a corner instead of 280. No real noticeable difference in handling or comfort. The new toy just cost me £300 for a new boot thanks to an ill positioned screw after only 2000 miles hey ho...

My mk3 MR2 had the potenzas on they were quality. I truly ragged the crap out of that car and still only bought 3 sets over 70k miles. The Vredestein were good but I had three blow outs in short succession so would not use them in future. In all cases it was the tire wall that collapsed.

I think a quickie in a car park with a munter might be more agreeable. The car is still off the road after seven days. With merc mumbling something about special AMG wheel size and has to come from Germany...

Merry Christmas Mercedes you have a complaint coming your way next year...

                Bollocks

                From Autocar -

The magazine tested wet handling and braking, dry handling and braking and aquaplaning, plus a high-speed test at the Contidrom test centre in Hannover. Senior tester Jamie Corstorphine summed up with: We expected the bargain tyres in this test to fall short of the Continental, but we were not prepared for just how poorly some performed.

The results are shocking. To get the full test results you'll need to buy autocar this month, but the results from the wet braking speak for themselves:

                Continental: 31.7 metres
                Nankang: 33.8 metres
                GT Radial: 35.8 metres
Wanli, Triangle and Linglongs: 40.2 metres

My Dad works in the tyre industry and won't let me use Avons. I stick with Continentals where possible.

Just an update from my end: I opted for the Continental contact 5 premiums. 4 new tyres and feels like it is glued to the road. Very happy with them in terms of performance though I have no idea how they will go in terms of wear.... Bought online from e-tyre. Very cheap and good service.
