And the voice gets louder the less time I have left before the alarm goes off.

    No WFH option either, unfortunately.
    Don't get in for 10 then get in for 11!

      It's all about controlling your own life. Staying in a hotel or B&B means someone else does the cooking, chores, washing and so on. Personally I visit the gym near clientco for an hour to 90 mins 3 or 4 days a week after work; it puts the day behind me and then I can go and eat a good meal, and sleep well afterwards. At the weekend I don't have to do very much as the cleaner's been, and since I've been contracting (10 years, nearly always 3 to 4 nights away from home) Lady Tester has gone back to 32 hours a week work so she can do a bit more in the house. Not a sexist matter, simply that I can earn more per day so it´s more attractive for her to cut out a day from work. Weekends we enjoy ourselves as much as possible and both of us are sportspeople which puts work out of our minds completely.

      Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, and that´s why I say MTFU and get a grip on how you run your life. At the moment it looks like other people are doing the deciding for you, and that´s a lot more stressful than work, travel and so on.

          Not everybody has said man up.

          There have actually been some useful, supportive comments.

              'Man up' is useful and supportive too; it means that YOU have to get control of the situation and adapt it to suit the way you want to live. Your diary is being controlled by clientco's wish for you to be there at certain times and perhaps family's wish for you to be home at certain times. If you want to earn the money that contractors can earn you need to be prepared to make sacrifices, but be assertive enough to keep the sacrifices in balance with the rewards. You don't 'ask' clientco if you can go home early on Friday or take a day off next week. You tell them that's what you're going to do, within reason; obviously, don't fook up their biggest delivery moment of the year for the sake of your trip to the races, but take control. Stress is not caused by being tired; it's caused by not being in control of life.

                I take the following stuff with me for a week at clientco;
                - 3 pairs of jeans and 5 shirts
                - 5 pairs of undies (one for each day plus a spare pair)
                - 5 pairs of socks
                - washing kit
                - 3 sets of sports clothes for use in gym
                - 2 laptops (mac & PC)
                - 1 study book

                I have a few pairs of shoes residing semi-permanently in the boot of the car.

                It takes me no more than 20 minutes to gather all that stuff together, but granted; the washing machine and dryer do a long shift on Saturdays. I set off on Monday for a 2.5 hour drive at any time between 6 and 8, and clientco can bloody well live with me turning up a bit later on a Monday.

                How in the name of all that is unholy can you need to start getting stuff together at 3 o'clock on Sunday?

                  If there's no mention of the 5 pairs including a spare pair, what's the fifth pair for, or don't I want to know
