    I can empathise with you.
Donated too last night, but it doesn't seem enough.

You have to develop a sense of detachment. If you feel personal empathy with the victims of every disaster/famine/war you'd despair and probably end up topping yourself.
All you can do is put your faith in those who are willing to go out there and do what needs to be done, and support them.

Donating £50 (or whatever) seems so trite. Your lives are torn apart - here have an hour's pay to make it better.
I'll then go and spend double that on a new pair of trainers.

This is a taster of things to come, these places will be underwater soon. If everyone had not taken 20 years to decide that climate change was real then we might have been able to stop it.

I might earn half what you do, but my stress levels are about 3% of yours

Stress. The permies here have stress - I just drink the coffee, provide advice, very occassionally write code and watch the entertainment......

I've worked with them enough, they were all hardworking people

Between typhoons and getting attacked by MILFs they're having a rough time poor sods
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Won't there be a shortage now, not only trainers but also various 'trendy' items of clothing as quite a bit is made in the Phillipines? There was also a typhoon in Vietnam very recently which I did donate to...
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
