Coding: 'Suitable for exceptionally dull weirdos'

I'm sure that Sasguru will be along soon to argue why this is the case

Haven't posted to the original telegraph article in order to not add to their click rate

    I don't have to.
Simply read General for a while to see why what he says is true.
    Hard Brexit now!

what a load of crap. Programming is like any other skilled technical profession.

My brother runs his own catering engineering firm. It took several years to learn the required skills and gain experience. He mostly works alone and nearly all the work is based on problem solving albeit under a boiler instead of in front of a computer.

The same could be said for electricians, plumbers, motorsport engineers and so on, I don't see why programming is seen to be vastly different to any other technical skill.

There is probably a significantly higher amount of people further along the Autistic scale in programming than other fields I would imagine. The problem is these "dull weirdos" now run the world. (see Google, Facebook, Twitter, Quantitative Finance etc), Revenge of the Nerds!

It's us/these exceptionally dull weirdos, who have an eye for detail and picky sense of reasoning that keep airplanes in the air, ensure your payment gets processed and make your favourite porn site available to you.

I have to say that most of the weirdos I have seen or known are definitely not dull, especially not shouty man in town...
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

              From the article
Coding is a niche, mechanical skill, a bit like plumbing or car repair.
If were a fairly low level commodity skill that anyone can do, then offshoring to, e.g. India, would work. But it doesn't, so it isn't.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

                    Yes, but...
Remember also the money. Journos are very badly paid, they have not only been left behind by geeks, they blame geeks for the decline in their fortunes. FB, Twitter and the rest of the web have seriously hurt their prospects and of course Quanttative Finance is blamed by some for the financial crisis which ironically has hurt journos more than Quants. (I'm a pimp mainly for quants and other assorted geeks as well as writing, sometimes I believe everyone hates me)
