Rates are so emotive. If an individual is happy with what they got then anything else is irrelevant.
Eek knows my rate and mentions it is more than his, (I didn't think he would be working here when I told him it), I have no desire to find out his or anyone else's as what I charge I am happy withOriginally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyI can't see any way to do it can you please advise?

Not really! But just wanted to get some idea as to how to handle this sort of situation. I have tried so hard to keep low and maintain my dignity. As with the rates, I am no where near most of the regulars on the board are on, so can't really say I am a high flying professional.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostBasically he gets to tell everyone on CUK that he is on more than the other guy, or am I missing something hereComment

I know some of my team earn more than me. That's OK. They do most of the work. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

I can agree to a point, no-one wants someone else lining their pockets off the back your hard work, but in this game isn't it sort of "just how it is" ?Originally posted by northernladuk View PostUntil you find out you are being taken over a barrel by the agent and then it gets a bit complicated!
Dont get me wrong, If I worked next to another contractor doing the same job for double bubble I would be annoyed, but would put it away for renewal time and might raise my asking rate / defect to another agent then.
My situation - I was a permie for a consultancy firm. I was pretty senior so usually led a team / the engagements and did the commercials/renewals/opportunities once we were through the door at the ClientCo. So I knew what I (and my team) were on, and what we charged the client - on average 4 times what we were paid.
Once it reached the stage where, effectively, I was the one getting the new business, getting renewals for members of my team, but getting no pay rise for 3 years, I decided I would pimp myself directly and go contracting.
So even if an agent "screws me over" for 50 or 100% of my rate, as long as I get the rate I wanted I am still better off than I was before.
I addition, in my usual client base, the clients work much the same way: in that the agent must declare the contractor rate and their rate. The Clients are commited to encouraging a fair and equitable margin (in principle), as well as looking for added value. So the likelihood of a really high margin is somewhat diminished.
I saw another thread the other day suggesting there should be a "flat rate" fee or percentage for agents to make the market / ratio fairer. I would vote for that, but doubt i'll live to see that particular election

Getting better at translations ( found an internet site ! )
If that translates to " What He or She said ", i'm most definately a She ! : there's a clue in the user name and avatar
If it translates to something else, someone's going to have to give me some CUK language lessons - but cheap, i'm on the bench

On this forum there are posters who aren't the gender you think they are. Some of this is due to their user name and with others it's due to their style of writing.
If you just keep correcting posters without throwing a tantrum they will soon learn you are female.
Oh and all internet forums have abbreviations. HTH"You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

laugh all the way to the Bank, being flash on site is a bad idea.
Old Client we used to have a chap driving a Lotus, one of the first to go.
We have a contractor who drove a Porsche, every manager wanted his hours cut. He swapped to an Audi after a little chat.Comment
