What Im saying is that £1800 is nothing to someone who can afford an £80k four wheel drive hellbeast.

Id even go as far to say that the only people who WILL be affected by the tax increase are the very people who are most at risk, ie. low income workers with families who own these vehicles because they are better than owning two small family cars.

So what? £1800 is £1800. It is another typical example of the socialist ideal - you earn more so we'll tax you more! The problem is not any particular type of car (although lorries and commercial polution are going to cause far more damage to the enviroment than a Range Rover) it is the fact that there are so many vehicles on the roads. And why is that?? Hands up anyone?

Tax incentives for companies that allow home working!

Oh no that would be too difficult wouldn't it. Oh well back in the car to drive 10s of miles to go sit at a desk and plug into the remote server. You couln't make it up!
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

            Anyone seen Cap'n Jack recently?
Sorry, I've been so busy recently what with filming Torchwood and judging Marias for the Sound of Music.

Is there someone here who needs taking in hand?

Sadly Bagpuss, it would take more than that. I worked (as a perm) for a company many years ago and once I was allowed to work from home using a PC that was faster than the company supplied one. Having no coffee breaks, interruptions etc I produced far more work than I could have done at the company. Showed the results to the manager and he said:

"Yes, well that's good but you're not working from home again. I like to see all my staff in the office because that's the way I work."

The company now allows hot desking and some limited working from home but there are still many, many middle managers that simply will not allow some or all of their staff to home work.

For me, it's the only way I can operate with this amount of work. Ideally, I would like to say that if you are homeworking and take the piss, then you are assigned to an office for the duration of your contract.

For financial and family reasons, it makes sense for staff to work from home however, there will be other soft issues such as insurances, capital gains, group dynamics dispersion that would make any company, sorry HR team, get quite frosty about the whole thing.

And to top it all, there's always this illusion that because some people can work from home and others cannot, it will be deemed as "unfair". And there will be a hard core of people that will take the piss.

It's going to take a long time before full flexible home working becomes a reality, even though it so obvious that it solves so many problems that employees and employers are experiencing right now.

You think a £1800 tax bill is going to put someone off who can afford to buy an £80k four wheel drive?
