To be fair Scotland has its centres of excellence: banking in Edinburgh, oil in Aberdeen, manufacturing here and there. These hoover up the best Scottish graduates, the rest usually emigrate for work.Hard Brexit now!

I don't see what Scotland has to boast about in this list compared to England. Scotland's 2nd best university is 117th in the list. England has 13 higher entries and their quality is arguably much higher. Can you really compare Glasgow to Bristol, Durham and York, never mind Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL??? It might be free in Scotland but is it world class?
Lists like this do not provide a definitive guide to which universities are the best - and do not suggest the degree a student gets from one institution is better than the one they might get at another - but they do give an indication of their international reputation.Scotland has more institutions in the top 200 per head of population than any other country.
This is the point I'm wanting to convey, the gained reputation for attending these insistutions are born out of new science & discovery, not name."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment
