    From elsewhere

For some reason the two rather stupid young women arrested in Peru for trying to smuggle cocaine is leading the BBC this morning so I thought I'd pass on what I've heard.

Firstly the young women are guilty as a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo. They knew what they were doing. The "we were forced to", "they had guns pointed at our head" is the line that their handlers told to say if anything went wrong. So they are guilty and can look forward to seven years (the twenty-five years reported is nonsense) in the Santa Mónica female prison. An unpleasant place to be yet their own responsibility.

So far so clear. Thats what happens when two bimbos carry $1.5 million of cocaine through Peruvian customs.

From what i'm told, the wider context is more complex - and please note this doesnt in anyway excuse the criminality of the two. They are, rather dim, which begs the question why an international drugs cartel would entrust such a large amount of cocaine with two rather intellectually challenged people? The answer appears to be that they were the fall guys. Rather a lot of cocaine goes through the route they were taking, in order to "turn a blind eye" at the airport Peruvian customs are routinely bribed. Here is the bribe. $1.5 million of cocaine, the head of customs gets to strut his stuff (and no doubt pick up a bonus) and the Peruvian government can point to a very public example of its efforts in the "war on drugs" and so convince the Yanquis to continue to give them millions of dollars to order to fight cocaine production, a fight no Peruvian government has any intention of ever joining, but every intention of milking the gullible gringoes for.

Yep. Deffo bulltulip excuse story that they're rolling out.

I don't see how someone can be kidnapped at gunpoint, and then made to get on a plane then bring drugs back?

OK. Picture this. Someone piles into your house with a gun and says you're off to peru to smuggle some drugs for me. You would probably say 'umm ok'. They even might get you as far as the airport. But then surely they're not walking you through security, onto the plane with a gun in your back? This aint James Bond.

At that point, surely you'd start shouting help help and alert someone?

What about coming back? Surely, you're gonna kick off that you're carrying the drugs because you were forced in advance. i.e. not wait until you get caught and then go oops BTW....

Complete bulltulip story. More like two thick bimbos fancied some easy cash. Its all gone wrong and maybe they were set up but it serves them right to be honest. Hope they get a long time in jail.

        You don't watch enough films

They could have a kidnapped friend/boyfriend who is "dead" if they don't do it.
There might be photos of them in compromising positions to be sent to their parents etc.

But anyway, I'm sure neither of those are happening and they are just stupid and lying.

I have heard a rumour (don't know if it's true) that a Russian Mafiosi was involved. The girls were 'recruited' by said Russian gangland leader with the threat of 'sharing his sofa' & 'Don't let me get all SKA on your arses'. I heard he was stroking a grey squirrel & had been caught reading the Daily Mail.

            They were very scared.

Is there any truth to the rumour that he runs his empire from a bedsit above a kebab shop in Brum?

How do you think he gets rid of the ones that 'displease him'.

Maybe it was a calculated risk.

They researched the Peruvian legal system and found out you only get 5 years for smuggling. If they got away with it they would make 1 million each. Plenty of people study for more than 5 years and wont earn 1 million in 20 years. Also if they get caught they become celebs and write a book when they get out when they are 28-30 and make a few million.

                    I'm booking my ticket now!
