They can and they will. The courts will look at your income, whether that is salary or dividend it doesn't matter.

Excellent advice. Bitchy woman hate other women more than they hate men.

Generally there are very few good solicitors. A good one I know retired and in his words. “ Solicitors these days are no longer professional, they are just after making money and they will tell anyone that they have a good case.”

I think you are wasting time and money; you don’t need one. Follow my advice in an earlier thread and keep your limited company by resign as a director and get you self paid a pittance. You still retain control of the company as long as you own 51% of the shares. This tactic has worked for ALL of my contractor friends in similar positions.

4 questions for you here SwampThing.

              i) Are there any children from the marriage ?

ii) How many years old was the marriage ?

iii) How old (roughly) were both of you when you split ?

iv) Did your wife contribute significantly to your company and/or was she a shareholder up until the time you split ? Was she employed elsewhere ?

With the right answers to those questions I'd feel confident you wouldn't need to pay any maintenance.

The last question has a direct bearing on her entitlement to any proceeds from the company.

Secondly, ratewhore is spot on here. For representing the husband, a female solicitor is usually the best to opt for. Why ? Because most women with a modicum of power and influence posess a strong protective instinct (missing in their male counterparts) they will use for someone they feel is vulnerable.

                Thank goodness I never married!

Small wonder that the population is diminishing , Im sure I cant be alone at the prospect of balking at handing over my hard earned readies to some cynical gold digging bitch, thats why I outsourced my Love life years ago, a wise investment.

                  Why ???

What is the score with this divorce thing, do you have to keep paying for her for ever ?????
Fair enough, division of assets, harsh if she turned up with nowt and you had a house - Can't you just walk away after this and it's everyone for themselves ???
Fair enough, provision for any bin lids, might require giving up the house for them to live in with dear mama.
Kids not an issue or they have flown - split the gear, good-bye ???
                  What is the reality ??

Yes, I did. They aren't pre-nuptial agreements but marriage contracts, which isn't the same thing.
Basically, under French law, anything you bring in to a marriage will be yours if the marriage ends.
I pay no maintenance to the ex-wife (a modest sum for the kids, though) and she had to buy out my part of the house which means she gave me money when things went tits-up.
