A bit of irony for you (& no not the Ironing type: I have staff for that sort of thing) IT is viewed as a career option for the girlies but construction; not necessarily so.
The construction forums are a damn sight more polite than CUK, you might say that this is due to the forums being visited by the professional types more than the trades, but in all my years on site I can count the number of times I have witnessed “female banter” on one hand.
Unfortunately, this forum is the only outlet for many repressed homosexuals and painfully shy IT geeks who live with their mum and are furious with women because they lack the confidence to reutrn the smile to that nice lady at Reception. I fear it is inevitable.
We can always rely on OG to put forward the "closet homosexual" perspective.
Which is nice.

Flit! I remember that from Nigeria! That brings back childhood memories!
It probably saved more lives than the damage it did because at some stage it was no longer available as the developed world panicked about DDT. Thing is, DDT is nasty stuff, but it was used to fight something even nastier, mosquitoes that carry malaria. Of course, once DDT was no longer available, people started dying of malaria again, which isn't very nice at all. Quite a lot of kids got it and in fact I got it myself as a toddler but was treated very quickly; shame about all the poor kids whose parents couldn't afford treatment because if they survived they were often left with serious cognitive problems. I'm hesitant to call out 'Bring back DDT' but judiciously used with the right precautions it could possibly save a lot of people from a lot of suffering. Anyway, I'm in danger of being serious now so perhaps I'll stop.
Try googling 'cerebral malaria' if you want to know more, and don't look at the pictures while eating a sandwich.
Red canisters with something that looked like a bicycle pump. In fact, in rural parts of west Africa you can still see old Flit pumps from time to time that have been rehashed to pump up bicycle tyres and footballs.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014
