Did he mention why he sold it?
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

        BMW 6 SERIES 635 CSiA 2dr 3.4 SUPER RARE MANUAL STUNNING! 1989
That is sweet. I don't think a young lad looking for a flash cheap BM will appreciate the retro cool of something like that though. There is a guy with a very old drop top 3 series with the twin headlights (around 1990) and it turns more heads when it goes past the pub than the newer ones do.

But for everyone that got away with it there will be plenty that didn't. Do a search on google for 330D M Sport problems and there are plenty of people having a headache with them. Same can be said for any car to be fair. You pay your money and take your chances with these cars.

Why not look for the tourer? Less likey to have been driven badly and ideal for young families?

To be honest you have made your own mind up so I would switch off this thread and go buy one. We aren't helping you anymore except make you doubt your hearts desire.

How do Citroen make the interior look so cheap and down market in a so called luxury saloon?

It looks a little better in the flesh, although I have to admit they could do better.
But you buy this car if you want unbeatable softness and ride comfort and Ok speed, not for the interior, or even reliability.
As I said its so cheap you run it for a couple of years then chuck it away.
            £6K* for a fast V6** - that's bangernomics.

*Someone bought the £6K one, its not there anymore
**Same engine as in one of the Jags.

I think some fair comments all round on here.

BMW M Sport 330d has the kind of drive I am looking for, but the upfront and maintenance cost, insurance, risk etc. are all quite high. Given that I am pretty skint (in contractor terms i.e. less than 9 months warchest), I am not sure it is a wise decision to go and buy one (as much as I would love to).

So after a long think and a few discussions I am reconsidering along SAS's advice. Perhaps a Lexus IS 2.4 or 2.5 or even the more sluggish 2.2D..... I have struggled to find a fully loaded BMW and their mileage is super high. Lexus IS for much lower mileage, a lot cheaper and fully loaded.... Seems like the responsible thing to do.

Be aware that the IS doesn't have folding rear seats (not even as an option), I wanted one but my sails wouldn't fit in the boot.

All the saloons I am interested in don't seem to have folding seats - perhaps the only thing I will miss about my bland VW Golf.

I personally wouldn't buy that model at that age, maybe a 535 and definitely not a diesel. If you want something that size, that age and a diesel then buy an E-class Merc. A million Arabs, Africans and German taxi drivers can't be wrong
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

                      A cheaper alternative

Used FORD MONDEO (CD132) ST TDCI (155BHP) 2005 for sale - PistonHeads (Ref 1484884)
