Running is good for your body apart from the joints which have a limited life span. The more you run, the earlier in life you will get disease of the joints. Cycling is ok apart from cauing retile dysfunction. Running with weights seems to be considered to be a bad idea as it increases stress on the joints (although I do one weighted armour run per week but I am a rebel). On the fitness forum the concenssus seems to be that if you want a more intense run then run faster or up a hill.Comment

I was a competitive martial artist in my youth and trained with ankle weights. It did wonders for strengthening the hips and legs and it was really noticeable when sparring that it really enhanced the power and speed.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostWhat if you strapped them round your ankles?
I don't see much point in running with weights though unless you are training for something specific. If it is just to burn calories then run faster or for longer. Hip and knee problems curtailed my martial arts career and I don't run because of them (plus I get bored).
Cycling or swimming are easier on the joints.Comment
