Indeed! I've said this before, they always have tasty looking ladies. Almost worth 20 minutes discussing evolution (Again).bloggoth

Agreed, but they are not always lookers. Two knocked on our door only last week; one was probably seventy years old, the other 25 stone, which was a lot for someone only 5 feet 2 inches tall.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostIndeed! They were very polite though, and after some pleasant but brief verbal intercourse they didn't hang around too long.Comment

I don't think you can change the views of someone with whom you're discussing a subject. However, there are often others observing and not getting involved in the discussion, and they often CAN be influenced by the exchange of views. In fact, I know of a couple of posters who've given me rep saying they hadn't thought of things the way I'd put them and were being somewhat persuaded by my arguments.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostPPS How many times can we discuss the EU, immigration etc? We never convince anybody, all hard wired in the brain I reckon. Only true way to alter someone's views is a) drugs or b) a large hammer.
PPPS Or c) Ensure that they personally actually pick up the bill for their ideals, that often works too.
Anyway the Jehovas were around our way on Sunday morning, hopeless really as it's a village with about 95% catholics, two muslims and a few atheists. I don't think they had very rich pickings. Lady Tester dealt with them; being trained as a psychiatric nurse she has experience with nutters.Last edited by Mich the Tester; 29 May 2013, 13:36.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? :when the JW came to my house recently (2 males unfortunately) i explained why have a background in science I simply could not commit to any sort of belief system based on myths and fantasies.
They tried to produce some stuff from 'respected' scientists who were also JW - which was interesting.
I then showed them a picture of one of my young ones throughly enjoying her birthday - that sent em packing!
