The UKIP seems to be for 'righties' as a recent study found out:

Ukip’s “core supporters” are “a poorer, more working-class, and more deeply discontented group who closely resemble supporters of the BNP and European radical right parties.”
but did anyone vote for the 'leftie' version: TUSC - Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Immigration, the EU and public spending have been big political issues for years, and are constantly discussed amongst the public, in the media, programmes like Question Time, etc. etc.

What kind of debate do you imagine we're going to have now that we haven't been having before?

The answer is obvious. Thankfully there are still enough voters intelligent enough to remember that no party that campaigns on a single issue will ever be able to function effectively as a Government. This will become evident at the next General Election.
The high UKIP vote in the Council Elections is simply a result of dithering by the main parties over the sort of policies that are routinely described as being "out of control" in comics like the Wail.
Now I am not for a moment suggesting that these current lax policies are not far removed from what the country needs as a whole, but it seems obvious that they will only be reversed when one of the major parties grasps the nettle to do so. And this they will do at a point in time at which doing so will be most likely to swell their vote, rather than be just what the Electorate say that they want. THAT is what the public are protesting against, the intransigence of HMG.
More seriously, no party that is led by someone that looks like Kiki the Frog will ever assume real power as long as their core vote comprises ageing, disenchanted, Wail-digesting pensioners and xenophobic featherbrains like Troll etc.

There are two very good reasons for voting for UKIP

Our own elitist cretins hate them:

If by elitist you mean brainy, guilty as charged.
UKIP is a party of cretins, for cretins.
            Hard Brexit now!

One where the non-socialist alternatives are taken seriously for a change instead of being swept under the carpet in a type of BBC "mother knows best" way. I think this vote has demonstrated that people are fed up with the lack of political choice in this country.

Luckily for the rest of us, you only get one vote.

Luckily for the rest of us (the more realistic, intelligent, sane, and forward thinking), the demographic upon which UKIP relies for its votes is dying out.
Which is not to say, UKIP won't have an effect. They will.
Sadly that effect will be limited to probably handing the premiership to Ed Milliband.

I've never seen a TV debate when everybody is sitting around saying how great immigration is, or how great the EU is. It's always completely the opposite.

I agree - but then everyone goes away and does absolutely stuff all about it.
