I saw a contract advertised for BP where it said the contractor would be expected to provide their own laptop
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

    I preferred version 1!

I don't mind the virtual lock down (much, it means I can't use a tiddlywiki as a case management tool), it's the physical lock down I'm teed off with as I means I have to be here Monday to Friday.

It doesn't mean you plug your virus ridden laptop in to the corporate network. It means you'll connect to a VDI which will be then on the corp network. You'll just be on a guest network. Would that still be a security issue with the other machine in the guest network?

I think most of it all will just be for smartphones rather than laptops though.

Where possible I will try to use my own equipment, but like said before I will try to use a VM on my laptop for ClientCo software

The answer to the questions that BYOD has answered is not BYOD.

The answer is a personal budget and a set of standards and a menu to buy work tools from.

If it moves hand in hand with more control over your own job, working at home, your working hours etc etc then bring it on.

              All for it.
              I'm alright Jack

                  Ouchie on both counts.

I think the BYOD is driven by people in high places buying the shiny thing and demanding to be able to use it coupled with businesses not being willing to stump up for smartphones/tablets because they are as much of a toy as a business tool.

Surely it would be more BYOD and use it to point at some VM they provide.

I'm looking forward to when the clientco will let you BYOB.
