In my house I’m having speaking tubes fitted so I can summon the butler.

The first house I lived in still had buttons in all the reception rooms and a little panel above the door in the kitchen where a corresponding star symbol would shake when a button was pressed.

Property was cheap in the 70's and my dad was/is financially savvy.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Resistance is futile. You are going to get yourself a proper smartphone sooner or later so just put yourself out of your misery and do it.

There is a big difference between knowing about technology and having the latest gadgets, assuming that the two are correlated is a bad idea. I've wasted enough cash and been disappointed often enough that the latest gadgets hold little appeal for me now.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Buy a Nexus 4. They're like £280 direct from Google. Cheap.

One information I missed to mention in my thread starter was, I am currently working for one of the four UK Mobile Service providers. Not sure how relevant is that in this situation ?

Actually every minute you sit in a meeting with a dumb phone you scare them. The future is 4g and that has no concept of voice or sms everything is just a byte of data.

Looks like I'll be without a smartphone for quite a few more years, then.
