"If they don't know the YourCos bank account detail how do you expect to get paid. The CoI is to check you are trading as a Ltd and therefore fewer 'employment' issues."

I know why they need it. I am just saying, with details of your account, together with a copy of your certificate of incorporation and Vat certificate, they are holding a lot of company information.

I cannot fax my copy as it is filed at our accountants and it is easier to get the VAT people to post me a replacement rather then get my accountant to un-file it.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

    I preferred version 1!

It doesn't give them any more information really.

Bank account details - obvious necessity.
VAT certificate - number is on invoice anyway, date and classification
COI - Just shows company name, number and date of Inc which apart from the date is on most correspondence anyway.

Don't really think it's a big deal. The only thing from your original post is the passport copy since the contract is between the client/agency and YourCo.

Well from the carter allen advert on Cuk when opening a business account, all you need is.......

          PROOF OF TRADING NAME:

Sole traders: one of the following -

          Inland Revenue Certificate or
Customs and Excise / VAT Certificate

          Limited companies:

          Certificate Of Incorporation (photocopy acceptable)

          PROOF OF TRADING ADDRESS:

Recent utility bill or statement in name of business address.

          Please send all information to:

          Contractor UK Ltd,
          1 Northumberland Avenue,
          Trafalgar Square,
          London
          WC2N 5BW

          ================================================== ======

So if somebody at the agency wants they could take the photocopies and they would not be far away from being able to set up company accounts.

It seems odd to me that we hand over these documents without a thought. Why can agencies not be given the company number and look the details up at companies house?

Why they all ask for it? Mine is really a printout on half-nice paper from PDF template, what's the bloody point to ask for CoI when you can check it all on the Companies House website for free, and it was possible to do so for like at least 2 years.

A bit less than that, I' afraid.

Even if you managed to invoice £100,000 a year. The normal VAT bill would be £17,500, whereas the flat rate is £117,500 * 14% i.e. £16,450, so you're £1050 better off i.e. £87.5 per month, half that if you have to pay tax on it.

Definitely only worth it if you buy nothing.

That is the point I'm trying to make. All this information should be searchable using the company number and/or vat number. Having to send the document (or copy) which could assist somebody in opening a business account in your companies name seems stupid to me.

Has anybody here refused to pay the vat element on a purchase because they didn't let you have a copy of their companies vat certificate, or refused to pay becuase you were unsure of the status of the person concerned as they had not passed on a copy of their COI? So why do we have to put up with this from agencies?

I applied for a Carter Allen Ltd Co account and they insisted on having my and other signatories National Insurance numbers. I gave them two fingers and went to Nationwide. Cater Allen said they need the National Insurance numbers for proof that you are a UK resident. Rather daft I thought because of the recent news whereby Nis numbers are being dished out to anyone including illegal’s.

And they wonder why identity theft is so easy in this country.
