To be fair I don't think they meant to, or want to.
It's just that their culture is so fooking abnormally efficient and societal (as opposed to individualistic), like an ant colony.
Oh and they made some long-term, forward-looking decisions.
Sorry formant, if you're reading but's its true.

You seen em waiting to cross the road, ampelman on red, not a car for miles?

Then as a Brit, you can't stand it anymore and cross on the red man, they all start muttering incredulously.

And that's exactly how Nazi Germany started...

I've never noticed that I have to say. In Berlin at least, people cross on red all the time. Maybe because its full of non-Germans.

To be fair it was Hamburg, where there are no ampelmännchen...

Thinking about some of my German colleagues in the past I notice one thing, the drive to perfection.
Germans seem to have a very high boredom threshhold: they'll keep at something until its perfect.
I like that. I've tried to learn from that while still spending some time on creative ideas.

What's that got to do with anything? You suggested virtual working negates the need for managers and that's the biggest load of balls I ever heard. With distributed teams, you need BETTER management to keep track of everyone.

And FYI I have managed teams, and contracted abroad - I just did it virtually without having to leave my house. Why should I go to Sweden or the USA to work when I can do the work in Sweden/USA from my house?

Great come-back. Trying to distract everyone from the fact that you used to be a manager, and just now said managers serve no purpose?

You look down on techies as being grunts, then you look down on managers as serving no purpose, depending which you talk to. You're rumbled yet again as a joke who can't even keep their story straight.

Get back to your £100/hr consultancy work or you won't have time to get the hoovering done.
