The fact is your "evidence" is just opinion founded on your narrow view of the world. You've never offered any evidence at all other than your own man down the pub rhetoric.
As plenty of others have eloquently pointed out at length and you have chosen to ignore; the version of history we'd have had without Thatcher is unknowable. It does seem likely that an explosion on IT systems would probably have occurred with or without Thatcher.
I can't see why you think that freelance working was some kind of unique creation of Thatcher, in IT or anywhere else - and again, those with personal experience have made this point.
You choose not to listen to anyone who doesn't agree with you and then dismiss them as hypocrites. You claim there's no evidence, but offer none yourself. You deal in cliches but dismiss anyone who disagrees for the same "offence".
I understand why you loved Thatcherism so much.Comment

For the record, I respect what Lady Thatcher achieved and I feel sad that she has now passed away. She was a truly great leader. Best PM since Churchill himself.

Put your brain to work and research the answer and show us that behind that cliched bigotry there is in fact a man making an argument.
Had she actually given a thought to what would become of the local economies and developed a strategy for what to do with these people when they no longer had jobs she might have implemented that and offered them a better option than striking. As it was the only options these people were considering were to take it lying down or put up a fight, and her brutalist tactics only served to polarize them and strengthen their resolve.
The simple fact is that she was prepared to spend millions and sacrifice lives to defend the Falklands but appears not to have been in the least bit concerned with the welfare of the 190,000 British citizens that worked in the mines, or their families and local communities, they were simply "casualties" in her war with the unions.Last edited by doodab; 9 April 2013, 20:59.While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. She offends your liberal conscience but you are happy to take the money that her policies enabled you to earn. you were happy to enjoy the tax breaks and the freedom of not having to work within a Unionised workforce yet you make out that her policy of breaking the unions was morally wrong. You are uncomfortable because your liberal conscience does not like to see thousands and thousands of workers losing their jobs and being consigned to lives on benefits and without hope, yet you are perfectly comfortable with enriching yourself by building sophisticated IT systems that do nothing more than remove jobs.
You like then to think that you care about the less well off in society because it eases your conscience. Biting the hand that feeds you is a no cost sacrifice to show that you a "right on" caring liberal
Alternatively you could simply call yourself a hypocrite.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

1) I haven't read the whole thread....
2) I've had my week's 'units' this evening....
I didn't like Thatcher. However, I think it was very sad and quite scary to see the physical and mental decline of a once strong lady and I wouldn't 'rejoice' at her death, however I'm not going to mourn her passing either. From my perspective, she destroyed British Industry, and what it has been replaced with is prosperity for the few, not for the many. My personal experience was my family's displacement after the closure of Chatham Dockyard. AFAIK, that was nothing to do with unions, or strikes. I don't know the cost efficiencies/inefficiencies, but it destroyed a community which certainly doesn't seem to me to be a cost-effective policy. Medway has never recovered. No doubt there was lots of room for improvements, but Thatcher's policy was to kill the patient to cure the disease. Being a wishy washy liberal who likes to see the best in everyone, I'd like to think she did what she thought was best, but she was also egotistical and arrogant - "the lady is not for turning" to me isn't a virtue.Comment

I can't recall anything like this in my 50 years on this Earth, people even forgave Beckham's kick on Simeone and Ronaldo doing Rooney's temper to get him sent off in EC 2004 I think, all forgotten now.
It's real tangible venom and vitriol and like I say, either it's real or it's misguided. But I know what I believe.
Freedom for Tooting.
