Easy-peasy; do a bit of exploratory testing with that application and you can be classified as anything you want.Originally posted by ZARDOZ View PostHow can anyone off this site be classed as Elite? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

As you house is worth 125-250k it would probably be worth moving out of the council estate to some decent housing in the 500+k bracketOriginally posted by formant View PostElite. No idea why. I mean, yeah, household income is good, due to two decent earners, but the rest? Under 10k in savings, house in the 125-250k bracket. I tried a few different combinations of hobbies, which made no difference to the end result. My other half is in the Technical Middle Class, due to socialising with people of slightly fewer different professions and having slightly less varied interests (or maybe just cause he's not into opera). Hm.
Seems like being single/living alone means you're a lot less likely to end up in the higher classes. My best mate, a PhD-ed, Oxbridge educated physicist ended up in the precariat, presumably for being single/having just one income, renting rather than owning, and mostly hanging out with other scientists rather than a variety of different professions.
Credible stuff, yo.

Of course, but being truthful I was classed as Traditional Middle Class. I don't think of myself as that and resent belonging to any homogenous grouping of people.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostEasy-peasy; do a bit of exploratory testing with that application and you can be classified as anything you want.
In my mind the Elite would not work, be incredibly rich and socialise with powerful and influencial people. Liking African pottery and eating out at a vegan resturant twice a week are not the same thing.Comment

Indeed; African pottery is much better suited to stewed game dishes. Tell anyone in Africa you're a 'vegan' and they'll tell you you're a spoilt brat with more money than sense.Originally posted by ZARDOZ View PostLiking African pottery and eating out at a vegan resturant twice a week are not the same thing. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? One of the people involved in the research explained it on the radio - it's your interests and who you hang out with which mainly determines your social class.Originally posted by formant View PostSeems like being single/living alone means you're a lot less likely to end up in the higher classes. The more varied interests you have and the wider variety of people in terms of their occupation you socialise with the higher your class standing will be.
Then comes your income and whether you rent or own."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment
