If you do sport in my area and belong to any form of club you end up socialising with people from a wide range of backgrounds doing a wide variety of jobs.

Unfortunately due to it's urban location you are more likely to socialise with taxi/mini-cab drivers/tube workers than lorry drivers and gardeners (including those who do the public parks) than farm workers.
Yeah, I tend to socialise with a huge variety of people as I teach medieval combat so anyone can walk in, either to fight, because they are doing research, to get fit, to trade etc (hence I know university lecturers, bouncers, farmers, shop workers etc).

I suppose that's why we are described as "a gregarious and culturally engaged class."

He's the reason why you are Established Middle Class.

Quite a few of the old working class had lots of culture capital.

Does the pub, the bookies and the Bowling Club count as cultural capital now?

I thought he was talking about the old space trading game (Commander Jamieson). In that case I'm Elite.

I was Deadly on the C64 version. Not sure why I never became Elite, I racked up kills until the game got boring.

Elite. No idea why. I mean, yeah, household income is good, due to two decent earners, but the rest? Under 10k in savings, house in the 125-250k bracket. I tried a few different combinations of hobbies, which made no difference to the end result. My other half is in the Technical Middle Class, due to socialising with people of slightly fewer different professions and having slightly less varied interests (or maybe just cause he's not into opera). Hm.

Seems like being single/living alone means you're a lot less likely to end up in the higher classes. My best mate, a PhD-ed, Oxbridge educated physicist ended up in the precariat, presumably for being single/having just one income, renting rather than owning, and mostly hanging out with other scientists rather than a variety of different professions.

                    Credible stuff, yo.
