You are a contractor, who didn't have much brake in many years ....Why do you want to do backpacking when you can book 5 star hotles

Lots of things have changed travel over the years. For example, when I went round Africa and South America, there was no internet, there were no mobile phones, and no ATMs in those places. Made it a bit different!

Because IMO, if you travel round somewhere in 5* hotels you don't see the real country, if you "slum it", you see more of the day-to-day life of the locals.

Last time i went on holiday there was a fella in the hotel on his own, and he was telling us he had been on holiday when the volcano dust hit and nothing was flying, so he had to stay on holiday then when flights started all the people with families were chasing to get home so he he would let them have the flights, he ended up staying a month and a half for free

on another note the local ladies were throwing themselves at him he had the pick of the talent as he was single and on his own

Absolutely. The journey is more interesting than the destination.

I always remember that even people out in the sticks in South Sudan got that. They figured correctly that we backpackers didn't actually need to travel on the cheap in order get somewhere, we were doing it in order to see what flights and comfortable hotels can not show you.

I prefer travelling alone for longer trips.

You can do what you want and meeting people on the way is par for the course.
