The European Commission has launched a "grand coalition" to address the region's IT skills shortages.

In other words they are not just wasting some money they arer wasting "grand amounts" of it

Why is it that the government seem to think there is an 'IT Skills Shortage' where as on here we seem to think the opposite?

Is it because what they actually mean is there is an "IT skills shortage of people willing to work for £20k PA and as all my CEO chums do not want to pay £40k pa to their staff as they think IT is 'easy' and nothing more than 'admin work'"

They can start by sacking all the internal recruitment people who spend their entire time sitting behind voicemail and convincing the management that the skills "are not there"

They have the same skills shortage in the US too, noted by Paul Krugman:

Whenever you see some business person quoted complaining about how he or she can’t find workers with the necessary skills, ask what wage they’re offering. Almost always, it turns out that what said business person really wants is highly (and expensively) educated workers at a manual-labor wage. No wonder they come up short.

that was my thoughts - thanks for clarifying...

so in essence the skills shortage is just manufactured to allow greedy CEO's to legitametly recruit off shore workers at a cheaper rate

and we wonder why the country has gone to the dogs...

human greed has a lot to answer for
