After his public meltdown on here trying to get help connecting to an Oracle DB I do wonder what value his 14 years of technical experience hold.

but any sort of lying/bending the truth/bigging up a skill used once etc is blagging

it's a bit like hiring a builder to build you an extension and finding that his extensive building knowledge consist of wattle n daub method
Exaggeration. Two years out of the game is nothing if the game was previously mastered. 3m to get back up to speed.

i was a .netter. C#, ASP.Net, SQL Server etc. Had some Mickeysoft qualifications in it as well.

I'm good up to C#2008 standard. The thing is, there are a tonne of folks on the bench that do this kind of thing for a living. Just because my area is lean doesn't mean I should be pissing on someone elses patch, someone that's more up to date than me.

Is it too much to ask for this country to provide a few BA roles outside of banking?
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

I don't remember this specifically. I do recall having hell and all trouble getting a .net OTS app to connect to Oracle. No surprise as I'm not an Oracle guy

Bit like trying to get a plumber to change a fuse board really.

Mind you, I've now spent more time arsing about with Oracle than is healthy of the past few years so may have earned the title "Rookie".

You're looking at it the wrong way. Because you are on the bench you should be ****ing on their patch because there is a possibility that when you hit the interview the value added your skill set offers could be the thing the client wants.

That problem could and does happen to everyone. I really wouldn't be concerned about it (I had the same issue twice 7 years apart).

I was in a similar boat - I'd been out of coding for a couple of years doing some very lucrative testing.

Got myself the ms qual, applied for an underpaid 8 week gig. Negotiated more sensible rate at renewal and still there 18 months later.

Edit: I'm also thinking agile training is the next thing to focus on

Don't know what to say to that. You are generous. Would they do the same for you?

If you think you can't hold your own as a dev then leave it.

Dude I was a fine software engineer in my time.

                    Seriously thinking about this now.

Anyone know which Microsoft cert I should be looking at? I found 70-486 but they want 3-5 years MVC experience as a pre-requisite which I don't got (MVC is on my reading list).
