Sounds like it'll be culpable homicide - no minimum sentence dictated for that.

Difficult to understand that one.Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

If the person behind the door had been a heavily armed intruder, no-one would have thought OP had overreacted. South Africans are much more likely to be killed by an intruder than we are here.
So, if we accept that he thought it was an intruder (and the judge seems to have done) I'm not sure he did act differently to a 'reasonable person'.
I reckon he could walk free.
Although I still think the whole thing sounds a bit far-fetched...Comment

Here we go - this is the sort of thing that white S.African's are fearful of:

"A gang waited at the home of Nick Proios on Saturday night in Elsburg. When he arrived home from work, they shot him to death and fled the scene in his car.
Nick worked at CP's Pub & Grill, Germiston"""37-year-old Adam Schrier of Atlanta was shot and killed at his home early Wednesday morning. Police are looking for two gunmen responsible.
"We understand that this is robbery motivated. Apparently two suspects," said Maj. Don Woodruff with Duluth Police.
Schrier's girlfriend and her 8-year-old daughter were also shot during the attack. They were taken to a hospital and later released. Schrier's 4-year-old daughter was also in the home but was not injured.""A 47-year-old woman has been shot dead and her son wounded in Lerome village near Mogwase, North West police said on Thursday. Two men attacked the two on Wednesday night, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.
The woman was sleeping in her house with her four children when they heard a knock on the door.
“One of her sons went to unlock, but was shot in the chest while opening.” Ngubane said the two men went to the bedroom where the woman was sleeping and shot her. The other children were unharmed. The wounded 21-year-old son was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Ngubane said the motive for the killing was not known and police were searching for the men."An 83-year-old woman has died after she was beaten and raped in the Sereni village outside Makhado at the weekend, Limpopo police said on Monday.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the woman was attacked in the early hours of Saturday.
“It is alleged that the pensioner was asleep when two suspects, who (had) covered their faces with balaclavas, forced (their way) into her room and demanded money,” Mulaudzi said in a statement.
“The two then dragged the gogo to nearby bushes where they allegedly raped and assaulted her.”
They left her in the bushes, returned to her house and set it alight, said Mulaudzi.A Claremont couple were murdered inside their security complex home in Pretoria west on Tuesday. The bodies of Gert (67) and Louisa (65) de Lange were discovered by their son, Deon, after he could not reach them by phone. Their corpses were found on the floor of their bedroom, where they were probably overpowered and assaulted with a blunt object. Both had suffered visible head injuries. The bedroom was in a big mess, which showed that the couple had put up a fight.
Seems a lot more credible in light of the prevailing culture of fear.Comment
