    So Formant is your sockie?

When I said break it up I did not mean privatise it. Privatise the bits that are suitable for privatisation, cut back the complex lines of responsibility and divvy it up into regional providers. small states such as Hungary,Denmark Belgium and Croatia seem to manage why on earth does the NHS need to be as big as it is?

FTFY. One person is not relevant... in your case who even knows if the thing progressed between seeing one and the other.
This is science, measurable by cold hard facts.

You have to laugh when people talk about going private, like it's something completely different.
Who trained your private doctor? The NHS
Who trained your private surgeon? The NHS
Who trained your private Nurse? The NHS
Whose facilities is he using? Quite often.. The NHS

Who many private A&E departments are there?

Private healthcare relies on The NHS.

That would have been worth elaborating on straight away. More reasonable than the generic privatisation argument so many people like to throw around in response to NHS incompetence.

Why should people have to go through hoops to see a GP?
Luckily I'm reasonably healthy so far, so if for the 1 or 2 occasions I need to see a GP a year, I pay about £150 in exchange for my total convenience, that seems a small price to pay to me.
GPs are used as social services where all the fragile elderly and mentally ill patients are dumped on them.

To minimise this they employ dragons to keep people away. However like with all our public services you get ignored the few times you need help if you are generally healthy.

BTW I prefer dealing with GP trainees as they are actually scared of making a mistake there as partners/salaried staff are cynical and think they have see it all, and GP locums don't give a damn. In fact in my experience locums can be dangerous due to their lack of care even in normal circumstances.

How convenient for you apologists that we dare to criticise the NHS and not offer up privatisation for you to hit back at.

                Not in all cases.

Foreign nurses and doctors education and initial training is paid for in their own country by themselves or that country's government. Only when they want to work in the NHS as already qualified individuals do we have to pay for some of their training saving us a hell of a lot of money.

What's your point though? getting a room to yourself and better general service is usually worth the extra rather than being on a ward hell-hole.
I agree that the cutting edge (literally) , operations and the like, are the same and TBH, when you get to that point the NHS is generally very good.
You pay extra for polite and better trained nurses who have more time to spend on you, privacy and better food.
                    Hard Brexit now!

I can compare NHS directly with private - ACL repair on both knees.

Gigantic scar on the NHS where they went straight through the front of the knee, full mobility not returned.
Private was a couple of keyhole scars and a perfect repair.

I think, generally the standard of medicine in the NHS is poorer. Can't say I've noticed a massive difference in the standard of care.
