One fly in the ointment Mich, Mozambique. What do you know about Mozambique ?
Haven't been but I know it's a 'rising star' for tourism in Africa. Economy is growing and apparently it has some of the world's best beaches, but I haven't been yet.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Mozambique major infectious diseases:
degree of risk: very high
food or waterborne diseases: bacterial and protozoal diarrhea, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever
vectorborne diseases: malaria and plague
water contact disease: schistosomiasis
animal contact disease: rabies (2009)
about the same as London then...
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think
In other words, don't eat salads in cheapo restaurants, drink bottled water or pop, wash your hands before eating and don't swim in the rivers. Yep, pretty much the same advice as for London (although London water's probably safe, it doesn't taste all that great).
Where do you find all these panic stories? Who writes them? They read like Wilmslow's life story.

There's no point in trying to convince the scared and timid.
It's not something that can be changed overnight, if ever.
One just has to feel sorry that in such a short life as we have, one I believe should be crammed full of experiences which includes the taking of calculated risks in exchange for great reward, that some people will go to their death bed with such a short fund of memories.

Think I'd rather take a sun lamp down to the London school of Tropical Medicine and take my chances there (from the CIA fact book )

There's risk in everything. It's what makes life interesting and exciting. Where are you planning on escaping the UK to?
The US which is full of gun toting nutters?
Australia where you'll probably be eaten, stung, poisoned or bitten by the wildlife?
NZ where you'll get blown up by volcanos or fall into massive sink holes?
Or somewhere else which is full of Johnny Foreigners who really do need to speak the Queens English.
You clearly have no experience of Africa other than what you can trawl up from Google, so why not just ignore the thread you utter utter cretin.
And the lord said unto John; "come forth and receive eternal life." But John came fifth and won a toaster.
So off you trot on your "safe as houses", organised, sanitised all you have to do is pay for it- package tour alongside Doris the typist from Croydon and her boring partner and imagine yourself to be living some kind of adventure to liven up your tedious existence.
I dare you... I double dare you muther fooker to travel independently through the continent without the safety blanket of an organised tour, then return and post your experiences - if you survive then and only then will you have a fund of memories rather than some glossy magazine view of the world.
