I've now had over 40 applications for a perm BA/BPM role I have in the US. So far

36 Applications from Indian educated applicants
    1 Russian
    1 North American
    1 South American
    1 Chinese

Only 4 have had BPM experience. Less than half the CRM experience I asked for. Less than 10 had worked on a Sales Force type CRM.
Of the ones from India, all have classical BA experience through IT, mostly all starting as low level programmers. Two have worked in the business directly, all the rest assigned from IT to SMES in the business.

We've shortlisted 7. 6 got rejected by the recruiter on 1st interviews. 3 on visa issues. The other two as not really qualified. One on location.

We've managed to interview one who was to generic, still didn't have the skills I wanted plus I had trouble understanding them. FFS.

I've advertised for a contractor now.
What happens in General, stays in General.
You know what they say about assumptions!

+1 Hire the best available, not the cheapest. I am sure you could find useless guys in Sheffield too if you looked long enough.
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

trying to get 1 server in the DMZ, talked to 4 different departments yesterday.

I asked, is there a procedure for this ... silence.

I wouldn't mind they are all Yanks. I considered it easy I even think we could do it in January.

previously I would have rung a guy in Glasgow and it would be done in an hour, it would of taken that long because we would be talking about BBT or similar.

Prior to that I would have done it myself in 10 minutes.

I have had six meetings to discuss which items to be shown on a web search (ITSC) I used paint and red squiggly lines to illustrate. So they reply with a vague 'we want the queues sorted out, make it so' (I think they have watched too much Star Trek). They missed the big letters in the email saying that due to security settings they are the only ones who can raise the helpdesk call and its not my job to support them I am doing it as a favour. These are the offshore India resources.

so 1.5 times as many meetings for offshore India against offshore US. 2 days against 10 minutes, good job I'm not on piece work.

I once had to translate between a Ukrainian and a French chap - from English into English. They both spoke heavily accented English and couldn't understand one another. I could understand both, and they could understand me.

Glaswegian dialect is the hardest to understand - is that classed as Borders?
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

I did not have any language barriers in Scotland. Maybe slightly more difficult to understand them in the social context, professionally no need for translation. Perhaps I just was lucky.

With Bobs, on the other hand, it is as much about the attitude as it is about the accent.

Have there been any decent insiders stories/exposes on the whole farce of outsourcing/offshoring of IT ? Or is it just too hard to explain it all in laymans terms.

The only defence I can think of is that some big Co IT departments were in such a mess to start with that you might as well palm it off and try and make it a cheaper mess.

My current company seemed to have it sussed to some extent, they have signed an offshoring deal before sacking everyone and are trialing things. All but the most menial tasks have been a disaster and things are being drawn back in house. Not sure if common sense will prevail but it is at the moment.
