From that article: "UK: Bulgarians and Romanians who come to Britain from January 1, 2014, will be eligible for most benefits if they have work, are self-employed or seeking a job, have an address and intend to stay.
They would be means tested, but could get: Jobseeker’s allowance, housing benefit, working tax credits, incapacity benefit, disability living allowance, income support and child benefit."

Hah, it's like the Wail completely neglected the fact that in order to claim anything you need a national insurance number. To get a national insurance number you have to have a (legitimate) job (with a contract). That whole process takes a minimum of 6 weeks (It took more like 8 when I applied for my NI number in 2005). Payments won't predate the date of first making the claim, so unless people are suggesting that Romanians will come here, secure a work-contract and ditch that job to go on benefits the moment their NI number arrives in the post, this 'from day one' thing is just complete bollocks. And even then, it's obviously not 'from day one'.

Germany has a far larger amount of immigrants than the UK, one of the largest in the world and this has been a problem for quite a while. As the article states, since 2006 so its actually old news but that doesn't stop the Wail scaremongering. I like the last sentence as that is the city where I work and personally I have seen bugger all Roma here unlike in places such as Frankfurt or Berlin or even Darmstadt. I see they don't mention Nice as they have serious problems with East Europeans living rough in the city, just go to the central parks (the Wail just doesn't like Germany which is probably why)

I am glad you are so sure. It seems that EU laws may override UK laws. Even the conservative MP doesnt know for sure:

I'm sorry, I can't take anything featuring Nigel Farage seriously. I mean, the guy quotes legal EU migrants into his made up 'illigal immigants' figures....

If Germany can dodge EU laws with regards to benefits, then so can the UK. That's worked pretty well so far.

But the tabloid stories are just so much more gripping, aren't they?

I see that this debate has been sidetracked into arguing the toss over immigrant workers and a toss up about which company has the most immigrantsIt is interesting that the europhiles are arguing on the basis that "it wont be a problem", neatly leaving aside the assertion that the EU is leading Europe towards a totalitarian state. If Germany or France want open door immigration then let them have it. We in the UK will make our own minds up.

trash the person and thus have a nice easy cop out to avoid facing the point is it not? It does not matter what Nigel Farage says the point is that the Conservative MP was not able to deny his claims that Romanian and Bulgarian migrants will be able to claim benefits from day one.

I have been living and working in the UK for the past 8 years and have no intention to 'go and live there' - wherever 'there' is.
