It could just be permies worried about their jobs, you haven't been there long enough to be 'one of us' etc.
Just keep your head down, toe the line and don't worry about it.

You may find some resentment - permies knowing that contractors earn more but do not understand the contracting business.

Just take calls away from your desk, make sure that your phone is on silent or let it go to answerphone and return calls later.

Thats what I do...but the personal call does come through and must be answered (I lost a friend in early Jan) but walked away from my desk and somewhere quiet for those.

all good advice,
and all taken i keep my head down and just try to produce work of a consistently high standard.
Kept the phone in my coat pocket and only use it at lunch time now. as long as they pay and on time i will be happy.
this will be tested next week
