It used to be as part of France.

In fact i believe there has been EU territory on every continent bar Australia.

That's slightly different to being a member of the EU isn't it?

The question was which countries have left the EU.

Algeria is a country, that left the EU (or its equivalent) when it gained independence from France.

Take that for what it's worth.

          Yep you answered the question.

          Now answer the other questions.

(I can't go into explanations of why both countries are advantaged/disadvantaged until you do.)

Why would that be the case?

An EU exit would require the UK to negotiate new, possibly less favourable Open Skies Agreements with the EU, US, ASEAN, etc. Although likely to be sorted out over time, this would massively impact the cost of airtravel in the immediate future.

Algeria left France. Once sovereign it would have had to re-apply in its own right to become a member of the EEC (back then) or the EU (since 1993). There was and is no automatic provision for this. Algeria didn't leave the EEC/EU, they simply never joined it. This would be the same if Scotland were to leave the UK and is likely to be the dealbreaker in that scenario.

England could leave the UK, we can dump Scotland, Ireland and Wales, they just moan all the time anyway, lets see how they get on without the subsidies. We then just forget to reapply and drop our corporation tax to Swiss levels - BOOMED

Do you have any arguments that don't consist of scare stories?
