    I would head to the V&A or the British Museum. In the case of the latter is great to see what you can steal from other countries when you are the leading nation as museums first appeared.
    Another vote for either of these - took GF Bacchus to the V and A earlier this year thinking I would be stifling yawns at ball gowns through the ages, but was impressed by the Heatherwick Studios exhibition, and expecting a crappy sandwich I was amazed by the restaurant - decor and confit of duck with a puy lentil salad. Sublime.

    And, yes, to be impressed by what a nation can nick, head to the British Museum

      I've never forgiven the Science museum since they got rid of the million-volt spark machine. That charged up a bank of capacitors and fired an electrical spark over a 3-foot gap.
      It was LOUD!
