If you're referring to the parental responsibility thing (which only married fathers used to be granted by default), that was actually fixed in 2003.Originally posted by Old Hack View PostLegal repercussions too. Of course on the Male side...Comment

Ah, k, well I doubt it matters whether that takes place before or shortly after. She'll have his last name anyway, cause nobody can spell or pronounce mine in this country.Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostAll part of setting up a stable family environment

If you can be bothered to have a child you should be bothered enough to do the other tulip too.

Yeah, well the child is the greater commitment and the greater tie, so I guess you might as well. A divorce can be really cheap, quick, and simple when there are no kids involved. With kids, well....you don't want to go there.Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostIf you can be bothered to have a child you should be bothered enough to do the other tulip too.

I think there is some truth in this in the early days, if only from a point of view of physical dependency - it is the woman who carries the baby and gives birth to it. Until that lot's all done, she doesn't have the option of abandoning the child, and by the time that is done, she's attached to it. Breastfeeding extends that dependency and increases the bonding.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostThe truth of the matter is that a mothers love is stronger than a fathers love anyway from a biological standpoint. Actually carrying and giving birth to a child causes a much higher bond. From a blokes perspective that initial 30 seconds does not indicate a huge amount of emotional effort. Hence it's easier for feckless fathers to walk away for a woman to abandon their own child.
Men can and do get the same bond, but they have to opt in.Comment
