Kate hoax nurse found dead

This, imho, is the salient point; the DJs didn't know who was on the receiving end of the joke and that was the misjudgement. Office banter etc is usually carried out by consent, you know who can and who can't take a joke. If you go to a comedy show you know what to expect. What you don't expect is to go to work and be made a fool of my someone from the other side of the world for a joke. What is trivial to one can be devastating to another. But I discovered nothing else but depraved, excessive superstition. Pliny the younger -
So your 4 year old child had just died of cancer and someone at a dinner party starts making jokes about cancer. How were they to know?Originally posted by LatteLiberal View PostMy point is, the DJ's had no idea that an innocent hoax call would lead to someone committing suicide. Some on here seem to think the DJ's are directly to blame, if so then it follows that no-one should ever make hoax calls etc just incase the person at the other end is suicidal.
I usually only have to spell things out in that detail to my 4 year old, however given you seem to have the IQ of a potato I am not surprised.

You mean happy and well adjusted according to your lifestyle and upbringing? Anyone who lives outside of that is an idiot and if they cannot take a joke (your joke) then stuff em?Originally posted by VectraMan View PostDid they or anybody publicise the name of the nurse that made the mistake? Not that I remember.

It wasn't even a joke about anyone, it was a hoax call, most people would have felt a bit embarrassed for a day or two then laughed about it later.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostYou mean happy and well adjusted according to your lifestyle and upbringing? Joking about Cancer is not the same as pretending to be someone for a laugh. One is harmless fun the other is quite bad taste. The fact you can't discern between the two reveals much about you.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostSo your 4 year old child had just died of cancer and someone at a dinner party starts making jokes about cancer. Obviously you missed the salient point. Whatever made this woman kill herself, it was probably mostly due to her terrible life up to that point, so quite why anybody is looking to blame these two DJs for doing something a bit juvenile is beyond me. Why are we not all blaming the NHS for taking better care of nurses, for example?Originally posted by Gibbon View PostThis, imho, is the salient point; the DJs didn't know who was on the receiving end of the joke and that was the misjudgement. Speculation of course, but I just don't buy that a normal happy person is so upset by something like this that they kill themselves. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

Try and see it beyond the prism of your own sad sorry little existence. To her being humiliated in this way was probably more serious than a child dying of cancer. You don't know. I would imagine that with a mouth like yours you don't get invited out very often.Originally posted by LatteLiberal View PostJoking about Cancer is not the same as pretending to be someone for a laugh. Her employers knew who she was and I would be amazed if they did not fire her, anyone with any connection to the hospital or to her would have found out easily enough.Originally posted by VectraMan View PostDid they or anybody publicise the name of the nurse that made the mistake? That is without anyone making proper effort etc. This would hardly have stayed anonymous.
Although she might well have been upset by the backlash even if the people concerned probably did not know her exact name.Comment

YES YES YES, that's why you shouldn't play jokes like that because you don't know who is on the other end. It's not rocket science!Originally posted by VectraMan View PostObviously you missed the salient point.
