Dining out in Paris

So I'm taking the present MrsB to Paris for the weekend for her birthday. I've not been there in over 20 years, does anyone have any suggestions for places to eat that will do a decent meal without performing a radical walletectomy in the process?

And yes I know they have Macdonalds etc in Paris as well, and no we wont be going there.

Have a look round the university quarter.

Georges restaurant at the top of the Pompidou Centre is a favorite of mine, more for the trendy atmosphere and very nice views.

Also Cafe Marly in the Louvre is a decent spot for lunch.

Don't expect cheap prices or friendly service anywhere in Paris though!

Still, at least you don't have a child in tow. Kid's menus are practically unheard of and as Parisians hardly ever see their children, you will get wierd looks if you try and take a kid anywhere apart from the Hard Rock Cafe!

When I go to France I usually stay at Palais de l'Elysée, the chef is fantastic and room service is even better.

Have a look on the Michelin guide, which will give you an idea of the reasonable places to go. Not just the starred places.


One place Mrs B would like is Pierre Hermé for patîserie.

The original La Relaise de Venise which I think is called entrecôte is supposedly good if you like steak frites.

I always stay here in Paris. Highly recommended.

La Coupole is good for the full blown Paris brasserie experience.

Josephine "Chez Dumonet" is rated one of the top bistros in Paris. I ate there a few months ago and it was superb.

Neither will break the bank. If you do want to break the bank I reccomend Helene D'Arroze.
